Village offers free parking permits for residents with disabilities

VOORHEESVILLE — The village office in Voorheesville can now distribute parking permits for people with disabilities to village residents, according to Clerk-Treasurer Linda Pasquali.

There are two options for those who wish to receive a parking permit.

One is to complete, together with the resident’s own health-care provider, the application form MV-664.1, available on the website of the state’s Department of Motor Vehicles.

The other is to have the healthcare provider — who must be a medical doctor, doctor of osteopathy, doctor of podiatric medicine, or nurse practitioner — complete a statement on their letterhead. The statement must describe the disabling condition and verify that the disability qualifies under the law.

The applicant must then bring the form or the statement to the village office to receive the permit.

There is no fee for the permit.

If a resident wants to receive parking plates for people with disabilities, it is necessary to bring either the same form or statement to the Department of Motor Vehicles, pay $28.75, and surrender the current vehicle plates.
