History brought to life along with the reality of sacrifice

To the Editor:

I would just like to thank Gail Brown from the Voorheesville Public Library; Gail Sacco, director; staff at the library; and Friends of the Library for the special program on Sunday, Dec. 3, “Military Memories and Veterans’ Voices.”

In November, some Boy Scouts and young men and women from the Voorheesville school were paired with veterans or active military members, from World War II through the present, and the youth interviewed these men and women.

At Sunday’s program, the youth spoke of the highlights of their interviews to an overflowing crowd. The program was streamed live. There was a time to mingle and eat light refreshments. I was very impressed with the youth and their interest and respect shown to their interviewees.

The educational experience brought history to life but, more importantly, put these young people in touch with the reality of the “Greatest Generation” and current military members who sacrifice so we can have the freedom we often take for granted.

We are blessed to have such a dedicated staff at the library and look forward to many more of these kinds of programs.
