Church events for Christmas: ‘Regain the true meaning of Christmas’ say organizers
Local churches are hosting these Christmas events:
— Advent Lessons and Carols: The annual Advent Lessons and Carols, presented by the Guilderland Interfaith Council, will be at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 6, at Christ the King Church on Sumter Avenue in Guilderland. Adult, Youth, and Handbell Choirs from many Guilderland churches will present individual anthems and combine in a chorus of more than 100 singers.
In addition, everyone attending will join in several carols. An offering collected at the service will be given to the Guilderland Food Pantry, and a reception will follow the service. Everyone is invited to this beautiful and meaningful Advent event;
— Voorheesville Christmas Festival: On Sunday, Dec. 20, at 7 p.m., the First United Methodist Church of Voorheesville, at 68 Maple Ave., will hold its 26th community festival. Everyone is invited to enjoy a traditional holiday program of Christmas music and a story, presented by community singers and players. For more information, call Ken George at 765-4442;
— A Christmas Music Program will be held at the Westerlo Reformed Church on Route 143 in Westerlo at 3 p.m. on Dec. 5. Wally Jones will play a beautiful combination of Christmas hymns and all-time favorites. Listeners are urged to bring a canned good for the Hilltown Community Resource Center;
— The Young at Heart Senior Ministry of the Westerlo Reformed Church will have a baked ham dinner with all the fixings on Dec. 10 from noon to 2 p.m. Bingo will start at 1 p.m. “Come and enjoy some holiday food and fun,” organizers say. Call 797-3742 for reservations.
— “Community Caroling, Presenting Symbols of Christmas” will take place at the Christ Church in Duanesburg at the corner of Route 20 and Churches Road on Sunday, Dec. 20, at 7 p.m. There will be refreshments following the free program. “We would like to include all members of the community so that those who attend will regain the true meaning of Christmas,” organizers say.
