A Living Nativity - complete with angels, wisemen, and llamas - will once again be part o the Victorian Holiday celebration in Altamont, this year on Dec. 9.

To the Editor:

It’s almost here! In 10 days, the Altamont Victorian Holiday celebration will be upon us, with all the sparkle and fun to get us into the holiday spirit.

This will be the 17th year of this event, put on by the Altamont Community Tradition. It starts on Saturday night, Dec. 8, with a wine-and-cheese party for Altamont village residents from 7 to 9 p.m. and continues on Sunday, Dec. 9, from noon to 5 p.m.

This event — with the Living Nativity, lots of outdoor and indoor activities throughout the village, animals to pet, bonfires, artisan crafts and tours of decorated homes with trolly transportation — is looked forward to by many residents and visitors from all over the Capital Region.

The village will be buzzing with many vendors at the Community Room at the firehouse, the American Legion, Re-Nue Spa, Severson Insurance, and Orsini Park. How about a “walking taco” at Hungerford’s, kettle corn and Mom’s cake pops in Orsini Park? Goodies will abound!

This year, six village homes will be open for tours. Trolley rides will take you there or walking there will be easy. Tickets are $10 and are available at the Masonic Temple on Maple Avenue. The proceeds from the house tours support various community and historic projects.

Decorated trees and beautiful wreaths made by various local groups and individuals may be voted on and wreaths maybe bid on at the Masonic Temple when you purchase tour tickets.

A huge treat for all is the arrival of Santa Claus on the 5 p.m. Santa Special Train by the Altamont Free Library. There will be gifts for the children and photo opportunities for the parents.

This holiday event in our beautiful village is a special treat for all ages. So, in 10 days, on Dec. 9, put on your coat, haul out the scarfs and mittens, and gather with others to enjoy the day wandering around Altamont, smiling! See you there!
