My art teacher says we get better with practice

To the Editor:

Esteban and I both believe that students should be allowed to take more art classes at Farnsworth Middle School. We hope that you will publish the statements we made to the Guilderland Board of Education during the public comment period on Nov. 19.

My name is Olivia Mair and I’m in the sixth grade at Farnsworth Middle School. The reason I am here today is I believe that we should have art longer than 10 weeks in an entire school year.

I loved art so  much this year, and I was devastated when I heard we only had it for 10 weeks and then I had to wait until seventh grade.

And my art teacher, Mr. Piejko, told us that we get better at art with practice, yet we have art for such a short time.

Editor’s note: Olivia Mair is the daughter of Enterprise reporter Elizabeth Floyd Mair.

Students in every grade at Farnsworth Middle School have 10 weeks of art, 10 weeks of family and consumer science, and 20 weeks of technology, according to Principal Michael Laster.
