Oneonta awards

Local students at the State University of New York College of Oneonta have recently distinguished themselves in several arenas:

— DelaneyAnn Martin, of Altamont, was one of seven students to receive a Scholarship Award from SUNY Oneonta’s Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. Martin, who is studying meteorology, received the Chance Imperato Scholarship Award. This new scholarship for 2018 was made possible by the family of Christopher “Chance” Imperato, and is presented annually to a meteorology major who demonstrates academic achievement;

—  Isabella M. Serafini of Schenectady, a marketing major; Joelle Lisboa of Voorheesville; and Natalia M. Boilard of Schenectady, a psychology major, were each awarded a Merit Scholarship. The college honored more than 850 incoming students with these scholarships, part of about $7 million in merit scholarship money offered at SUNY Oswego;

—  Lillian C. Talmage of Delmar, who is majoring in cognitive science, was awarded a Deans’ Scholarship, recognizing past academic achievement and potential for success;

— Liam McMahan of Schenectady, a software engineering major, and Angela Gocs-Yowell of Voorheesville, a broadcasting and mass communication major, were each awarded a Presidential Scholarship, given to a select group of students who started at the college in fall 2018; and

— Justin Heller and Nicole Viola, both of Altamont, and both students at the School of Economics and Business, traveled to New York City on Oct. 25 for the college’s annual Backpacks to Briefcases alumni networking trip. Students heard from the alumni about their experiences, positions, and industries and took tours of their offices.
