NEW SALEM.

Thanksgiving passed off in the usual manner, some entertaining guests, some going out of town and many remaining at home to eat their turkey. The day was not a very inviting one, the streets being covered with sleet and frost. The trees presented a very pretty appearance, but some damage was done by Jack Frost to fruit trees.

GUILDERLAND CENTER.

— The Griffith home, barn and apple house have recently been lighted with electricity, which is a great improvement and a great labor saver.

— The Women’s Christian Temperance Union has just shipped a nice box of Christmas gifts to their little French orphan, Desire Paul. Miss Moffett selected and sent the gifts for the society.

— The little boys of Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Witherwax, who have been very ill, are better.

VOORHEESVILLE.

Fred Filkins from East Berne has purchased from Ed Gainsley the cider plant and saw mill here, and will work at the business.

KNOX.

The annual fair and sale of fancy and domestic articles under the auspices of the Ladies’ Social Union Society of the M. E. church will be held in the church hall on the evening of Dec. 5. Santa Claus will be there and a variety supper will be served for the small sum of 35 cents each.

VILLAGE NOTES.

— A basket ball game will be played at Keenholts’ hall Tuesday evening, Dec. 9, by the two girls’ teams of the High school. The game will begin at 8 o’clock. Admission 15 cents. The public is invited.

— A masquerade and civic dance will be held at the Masonic hall on Friday evening, Dec. 12. The proceeds of the event, which is being planned by some of Altamont’s young married people, will be given to the Altamont Free library.

— The old Knower farm will be sold at auction at Hotel Altamont on Saturday, Nov. 29, at 3 p.m. The farm contains about 95 acres of land. It is now owned by the village of Altamont, who will reserve about five acres of land to develop the sewer plant and springs. The terms are cash.

— The Juniors of Altamont High school gave a theater party at the Grand in Albany Saturday afternoon in honor of the Senior class. The Seniors returned the compliment by entertaining the Juniors at dinner, followed by a theater party at the Leland. The party was chaperoned by Miss Margaret Lallenbeck.
