Scouts collected 853 items for food pantry

To the Editor:
Thank you to the Altamont Scout Troop 264 for hosting its annual food drive to benefit the Altamont Community Food Pantry. For the second year in a row, this event was a drive-up and drop-off, contactless food drive.

On Saturday, Nov. 6, people brought donations to the parking lot of St. Lucy - St. Bernadette’s parish center and the Scouts unloaded the items. All sorting and packing was done outside. Even though it was a bit chilly, it was fortunately a beautiful fall day.

The food pantry received 853 items — donations of food as well as household and personal care items! Thank you to the Altamont community for supporting the food pantry; the Scouts; and most importantly, those in our area who are in need.

The Altamont Community Food pantry is housed in the St. Lucy - St. Bernadette’s parish center at 122 Grand St. and is typically open the first and third Tuesdays of the month from 4 to 5 p.m. Procedures have changed during COVID where hours have been extended and everyone is required to have an appointment.

Anyone who is struggling and in need of food, please call 518-861-6542. If it is not during food-pantry hours, leave a message and someone will contact you.
