This holiday, experiences instead of stuff

To the Editor:
We are coming into the holiday season! Lots of excitement and looking forward to seeing friends and family!

Some families are all about stuff. Some are all about experiences.

There are more than 333 million people in the United States and more than 8 billion on the planet. We have a finite planet. A lot of resources are not being replaced as fast as they are being used up; 333 million people use up a lot of resources.

A lot of us have too much stuff. This holiday season, try a sustainable holiday instead of getting stuff.

Suggestions include: make holiday decorations, plan a potluck meal, take a day trip, volunteer, try out new recipes as a family, go to a museum, have an at-home movie night, make homemade soap, get crafty, share your skills, try a new sport, have an ice-cream party at home, plan a multi-family game night, and finally — start an indoor garden or a mini outdoor greenhouse.
