Gertrude A. Horl

BERNE — Gertrude A. Horl, “a very special soul, passed from this world” on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2017, her family wrote in a tribute. She was 69.

Mrs. Horl was born on July 4, 1948 in Syracuse, New York.

“Trudy spent many years working and making dear friends at the Farm Family Insurance Co.,” her family wrote. “After retirement, she loved all the kids at Berne-Knox-Westerlo School, where she worked in the cafeteria.”

She spent summers in her garden and working at Thacher Park. She volunteered at the EBC Therapy Center, run by physical therapist Elizabeth B. Chauvot, and for the Berne Youth Council. She enjoyed the local book club and knitting for the Alpaca Shack.

“Trudy touched souls every place she worked and volunteered with her positivity, energy, and unselfish heart,” her family wrote.

She is survived by her husband, Brian; their daughter, Tori, and her partner, Todd, and their son, Oskar. She is also survived by her brother Frederick (Duffy) Holman and his wife, Karen.

“There are so many other family and friends, too numerous to list, but two people must be mentioned,” her family wrote. “Without the unselfish help of Christine Gervasi and her husband, John Kilroy, Trudy and Brian don’t know how they would have managed through this past year.”

Calling hours were held on Saturday, Nov. 11, at the Fredendall Funeral Home in Altamont. There was a graveside service on Tuesday, Nov. 14, at South Berne Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of the Berne Library, Post Office Box 42, Berne, NY  12023.
