WESTERLO — Phyllis McDermott died on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2024, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany after a brief illness. She was 76.

She was born on July 15, 1948, and raised in Westerlo.

“Phyllis worked at the Berne-Knox-Westerlo School District, as well as at Spaulding & Rogers prior to her retirement,” her family wrote in a tribute. “Throughout her years, she enjoyed gardening, baking, and reading; however, her pride and joy were her grandchildren.”

She is survived by her daughter, Denise; her son, Dennis Jr. (Carrie); her cherished grandchildren, Bridget and Logan; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and in-laws.

Her husband of 55 years, Dennis McDermott Sr., died before her, as did her brother, Philip “Butch” Ives. 

Per her wishes, she will be privately cremated, and no services will be held.
