Shop small this Christmas, says Bethlehem chamber
BETHLEHEM — Shopping locally is more important than ever this year, says the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce as it launches its Holiday Shopping Card program, featuring discounts and promotions offered by more than 30 businesses.
The campaign kicks off on Sunday, Nov. 15, with a Toys for Tots drive at the Delaware Plaza at 180 Delaware Ave. from 1 to 4 p.m. and will feature the United States Marines and the Toys for Tots truck, as well as Santa. This will be a drive-through and drop-off event where masks must be worn and social distancing observed.
Everyone who drops off a new, unwrapped gift will receive a Holiday Shopping Card and the first 50 participants will receive a reusable Bethlehem Chamber shopping bag.
“This year it is especially important to support small businesses,” said Maureen McGuinness, president of the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce in a notice for the event. “The impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic have been great. These small businesses help give our community its unique feel and character. These local businesses are also the first to respond to needs in the community.”
Small Business Saturday, held on Nov. 28, the Saturday after Thanksgiving, is a national holiday celebrating America’s small businesses.
Participants of the virtual Delmar Turkey Trot will receive a card in their race packet. The Holiday Shopping Card is free and will be available throughout town at participating businesses, and at the Bethlehem Chamber office throughout December. You may also download the card at www.bethehemchamber.com.
The offers on the card are valid from Nov. 28 through Dec. 31. Show the card at participating businesses to redeem the offer, or show the digital card on your phone.
