Truck crashes into store
BETHLEHEM — An 86-year-old driver, who hit the gas pedal instead of the brake pedal, landed his truck inside a gift shop at Delmar’s Four Corners on Wednesday evening.
No one was injured.
Bethlehem Police said in a release that events unfolded this way:
Joseph J. Marsh of Grand Gorge, in Delaware County, was driving his truck south on Kenwood Avenue when he tried to turn right onto Delaware Avenue.
“He became concerned that he would not be able to complete the turn and strike construction barricades that were placed in the roadway,” the release said. “Marsh placed the vehicle in reverse, his foot slipped from the brake onto the gas pedal which accelerated the vehicle eastbound across the lane of travel.”
His truck left the road and crashed through the storefront of The 5th Corner at 395 Kenwood Ave. Police were called at 5:42 p.m. and Marsh was issued a traffic summons.
Bethlehem Police were assisted by Delmar Fire, Slingerlands Fire, Albany County Paramedics, Delmar Bethlehem Emergency Medical Services, Bethlehem Code Enforcement, and the Bethlehem Highway Department.
