Join us as we dedicate the Veterans’ Garden in Westerlo

To the Editor:
I am once again writing to invite the community to Westerlo on Sunday, Nov. 13. This will be open to all who would like to attend.

We will be dedicating the Veterans’ Garden. The Westerlo Hometown Heroes committee in partnership with the town of Westerlo and the Town of Westerlo Highway Department, has dedicated an area to pay tribute to all who have and are currently serving in the armed forces.

The Veterans’ Garden will include seven 25-foot, solar-lit flagpoles displaying the American flag and flags for every branch of the military, a granite monument in tribute to veterans, a POW/MIA monument, and a Battlefield Cross.

The ceremony will also include a rededication of the town park as the Westerlo Town Board members voted unanimously to rename the park as “The Town of Westerlo Veterans Memorial Park.”

The dedication ceremony features performances by the Village Volunteers Fife and Drum Corps and Evelyn Lawton Brody Shaver and speakers include Stephanie Hamilton, Greene County Blue Star Mothers, and keynote speaker, Marine Corporal Luke McDermott (a Purple Heart recipient.)

Following the event, refreshments will be served.

Please join us on Sunday, Nov. 13, at 2 p.m. See you there.
