Perspective on the Berne budget

To the Editor:

The percentage that has been posted is correct [“Berne supervisor proposed 19-percent tax increase,” The Altamont Enterprise, Oct. 19, 2024].

However, to let people know what that really means in terms of their tax bill, from what I can gather,  the 2024 tax rate was $4.609 per $1,000 of assessed value and the proposed 2025 tax rate is $5.485 per $1,000 of assessed value.

Therefore, the tax increase is 88 cents per $1,000 of assessed value.  If a property’s assessed value is $200,000, the taxes will increase by $176 for 2025.
