GUILDERLAND — In the wake of a barn fire, which harmed no horses, funds are being raised for the Albany Therapeutic Riding Center.

The not-for-profit center, which provides equine therapy, is located at 6640 Fuller Station Road in Guilderland.

The center’s storage barn caught fire on Thursday, Nov. 7.

“All our animals are safe,” the center’s director, Taylor Huntley, posted to social media in the midst of the fire. “I was here running lessons when my Barn Manager noticed the fire in our hay storage barn.”

She was referencing Kate Carlson-Herba, who also coordinates volunteers and teaches.

She went on to thank “the amazing firefighters who are still here fighting this for us.”

The next day, Nov. 8, Huntley started a GoFundMe campaign with the goal of raising $125,000 “for the immediate needs of our horses and farm.”

She wrote, “Program and services will have to be shut down until further notice, so we will need help supporting the operating cost of caring for horses and staff and preparing to restart our programming as soon as we can.”

She said the cause is unknown.

“Thanks to our amazing staff’s quick actions, all the horses were safely evacuated,” Huntley wrote. “We are deeply thankful for our dedicated staff, volunteers, neighbors, and everyone who has reached out since last night. A special thank you goes to the seven fire departments who responded to the farm last night.

“Due to everyone’s efforts, the fire was contained to just one building. However, the barn and its contents were a complete loss.

“We lost 600 bales of hay, bedding, grain, all the horses’ winter blankets, wheelbarrows, pitchforks, our four-wheeler, zero-turn mower, arena drag, extra vinyl fencing, and tools.

As of Thursday afternoon, $770 had been donated.
