County offers gift cards to SNAP recipients
ALBANY COUNTY — SNAP recipients who live in Albany County can get a grocery store gift card, which can be redeemed at Market 32, Hannaford, or Tops.
The cards will be handed out — one to a household — at specified locations and times, including on Monday, Nov. 10, from 2:30 to 4 p.m. at the Berne Library at 1763 Helderberg Trail.
The program, sponsored by the Albany County Department of Social Services and United Way of the Greater Capital, is meant to help fill the gap caused by the federal government shutdown.
Single households may receive a gift card of $50 while households with children may receive a gift card of $100. Each household is eligible only once at a single location.
County residents who are in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program need to bring with them a government-issued photo ID, a current SNAP card, and proof of residency if they don’t have a SNAP card.
“Without this documentation, you will not be able to pick up a gift card,” a county release said, adding, “There are a limited number of cards so they will be issued on a first-come, first served basis.”
