Support Democratic candidates to keep New Scotland moving forward
To the Editor:
New Scotland incumbents Doug Lagrange (Supervisor), Bill Hennessy (Town Council), Bridgit Burke (Town Council) and Lisa Williams (Town Clerk) have done an exceptional job running our town, and deserve to be re-elected this November.
Over the past several years, this board has kept property tax increases at zero (and below), invested in and expanded services for seniors, installed energy-efficient LED [light-emitting diode] lighting, attracted several new small businesses to town, created a new park at the Hilton Barn that will be an amazing asset to the town, and created a Joint Historical Preservation Commission with the village of Voorheesville to help guide the town in making decisions that best preserve and protect our town’s historic structures and resources.
The Board has also updated our solar law to protect mature forest and farmland; developed “Hamlet Zoning” to incentivize developers to build the type of infrastructure, commercial space, and residential buildings that are actually needed in town; and increased transparency by live-streaming town, planning and zoning board meetings.
As a veteran, our Town Clerk Lisa Williams has a dedicated work ethic and always greets residents with a smile and helpful attitude. Whether she is helping with the weekly senior lunches, helping residents navigate dog or marriage licenses, or simply answering questions from residents, she takes pride in continuing to serve her community and deserves (at least) another two years as town clerk.
Early voting began on Saturday Oct. 28, and continues through Sunday Nov. 5 — please come out and support our Democratic candidates to keep New Scotland moving forward!
