Scouts collect 625 items for Altamont pantry
To the Editor:
Many thanks to Altamont Scout Troop 264 for once again holding a successful food drive to benefit the Altamont Community Food Pantry.
On Saturday, Oct. 28, the Scouts along with their leaders and parents, accepted donations in the parking lot of St. Lucy / St. Bernadette’s church from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Community members drove up curbside and the Scouts took the items out of their cars, sorted and boxed them for the pantry.
Saturday was a gorgeous day, more like spring or summer than autumn. It was a great day to be outside but the Scouts and adult volunteers could clearly have been elsewhere enjoying possibly the last warm day for many months.
A special thanks to Doug Stang, scoutmaster of Troop 264, who has been actively involved for many, many years even staying on as scoutmaster when he no longer had children participating. His tireless dedication and service to the troop, the Scouts, and the community is very much worth recognizing.
Each year, this drive has been a huge help for the food pantry and those in our community whom it serves. This year is certainly no different. The food drive provides a nice variety of items not regularly available at the pantry and also supplements the needed staples.
With the generosity of those in our community, the Scouts were able to collect 625 items, not only food but also toiletry and household products as well as monetary donations.
As we all experience the high prices everywhere and the challenges along with it, consider how difficult it may be for people who are out of work, elderly, disabled, or even working but not making quite enough to support their family.
The food pantry is here to provide supplemental assistance to those in need. Thank you to our generous and compassionate community members who came out with donations on Saturday and all those who have supported this mission in the past.
If anyone is in need of supplemental food assistance or would like to make a donation, below is the contact information for the food pantry.
