BPD: Woman steals car at CVS, flees police

BETHLEHEM — Betsy M. Jablonski, 39, of Delanson, was charged with four felonies after, police say, she stole a car from a person at the CVS in Delmar and then fled police.

Jablonski had six active warrants at the time of her arrest on Oct. 27.

On Wednesday, Oct. 25, Bethlehem Police got a call for a larceny in progress at the CVS at 260 Delaware Ave., which “escalated into a robbery when Jablonski, along with her accomplice, forcibly stole a vehicle,” according to an Oct. 31 release from the Bethlehem Police.

“Jablonski refused to stop for officers from the Bethlehem Police Department, New York State Police, and Albany County Sheriff’s Department,” the release said, but eventually stopped near Exit 24 of the State Thruway where she and her passenger fled on foot.

While the passenger was not found, Jablonski was located hiding in the woods and taken into custody. She was then taken to Albany Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

She was charged with four felonies: second-degree robbery, third-degree grand larceny, fourth-degree conspiracy, and third-degree criminal mischief — as well as with five misdemeanors — sixth-degree conspiracy, unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, petit larceny, reckless driving, and aggravated unlicensed operation — and numerous other Vehicle and Traffic Law violations.

Jablonski was arraigned by Judge Andrew Kirby in Bethlehem Town Court and remanded to Albany County’s jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond. A preliminary hearing was set for Oct. 31. Jablonski also had six active warrants at the time of arrest.

The investigation is still open as police are working to confirm the identity of the passenger who fled.
