Learn about the county sheriff’s office and its history

To the Editor:

Who has thought of the Albany County Sheriff’s Office beyond what it is today? Our sheriff’s office has a long history dating back to the 1660s.

In the late 1830s, the sheriff’s office was involved in putting down the anti-rent rebellions in the Hilltowns.

On Nov. 5 at 7 p.m., Sheriff Craig Apple will speak about the history of the agency and how it has evolved over time. This Clarksville Historical Society program will be held at the Clarksville Community Church at 1997 Delaware Turnpike.

Sheriff Apple will discuss key events that have occurred including the operation of the Albany County Correctional Facility. Also, services and programs that have been implemented to make this agency a “full service” law-enforcement agency.

Our programs are free and open to the public; please join us.
