Laurel understands the environmental consequences of development

To the Editor:

I am writing to endorse Laurel Bohl for the position of Guilderland Town Council.

I know that she will bring a high energy level to the responsibility of the office, which she will exercise on behalf of all of the residents of the town.

Laurel and I became acquainted shortly after I was in involved in the grassroots response to the initial planned-unit-development proposal for development of the Hiawatha Golf Course, and I heard her as a voice of reason concerning the explosion of uncoordinated development along Winding Brook Road.

I quickly recognized the passion that she has for current and future directions of the town and the consequences on generations to come, and she has been an invaluable partner in the expansion of the Guilderland Coalition for Responsible Growth to address the diverse and numerous recent development proposals brought forth.

As well, her in-depth research and analysis of issues transcends political ideology with the goal of preserving the characteristics of Guilderland that made the town the choice of so many of today’s residents.

She espouses diversity of providing living opportunities that meet with the goal of proven needs, and endorses the diversity of people to make our town whole.

Laurel understands the environmental consequences of development and the attributes of repurposing abandoned or vacant property as opposed to the destruction of virgin land.

To achieve these goals, Laurel supports the rotating appointment to town boards of individuals who are willing to listen, ask questions, participate in discussions, and reach judgments on issues based on a sense of responsible growth and development regardless of party affiliation or position.

It is my privilege to add my name to the numerous residents who appreciate her obligation to the townspeople, and I have no doubt that she will dedicate herself to the betterment of Guilderland. I urge my fellow residents to cast their vote for Laurel Bohl for Guilderland Town Council.

Frank Casey

Guilderland

Editor’s note: Frank Casey formed the grassroots organization that has expanded into the Guilderland Coalition for Responsible Growth. Laurel Bohl became the group’s leader after Casey stepped down, a role she relinquished when she decided to run for the Guilderland Town Board.
