Fran Porter is ready to work for us

To the Editor:

Fran Porter is new to running for public office, I came to know her while working on grassroot campaigns during the past couple of years and I’m happy to share my reasons for supporting her as a candidate for the Albany County Legislature in our 31st District:

— Fran’s a leader

Her approach to tackling projects is organized and focused. She’s results oriented and maintains a positive attitude that is inspiring to others. It isn’t surprising to me that Fran has had strong experience in public policy and in administering large programs that rely on cooperation from many different stakeholders;

— Fran does her homework

In the eight months since Fran agreed to run for office, she has worked tirelessly to speak with residents, both in the Hilltowns and in the villages below about the issues they care about. She has attended town and village board meetings to better understand local issues. She has regularly attended county legislature meetings and hearing, sat down with many legislators to learn about the workings of the legislature, and studied the materials under discussion. She;s also met with elected officials at every level to get their perspective on the challenges and opportunities in the district. Fran believes preparing to do the job is an important part of running for it;

— Fran is able to connect with others and garner support

Her ability to reach out and connect with county leadership and other stakeholders is going to prove very important to her getting needed support for constituents in the legislature. She’s received the endorsements of elected officials and party leadership at every level;

— Fran is a good fit for district 31

From her early years in small midwestern farming communities, to her years in New York State, including living in Altamont for over 30 years, she understands and appreciates the values and the needs of people in smaller communities. Having been a working mom and now an active grandmother, she has the perspective and investment in leaving a promising legacy for the next generation. After serving in the state’s Department of Labor, she understands the critical part that jobs and job training play in building prosperity for both businesses and residents.

Finally, for me, it’s important to know that Fran would come into the legislature ready to work for us. An independent thinker, she will work with fellow legislators to provide real weight to the voices of our residents.
