WEST BERNE.

— Miss Elmina Van Schaack was awarded the prize for having the best composed story at the W. B. R. C. last week. She used only words beginning with her own initials.

— A word in regard to the entertainment to be given in the Reformed church Friday evening, November 14. The cast is made up of young ladies who have never taken a part in a play of this kind. Be sure to hear them and just for yourself as to their ability.

VILLAGE NOTES.

— The masquerade Hallowe’en party on Tuesday evening was enjoyed by the young people.

— A very pleasant evening was enjoyed at the home of Mrs. John D. Scrafford on Thursday of last week. It was in the form of a birthday surprise in honor of Mrs. Scrafford’s mother. Mrs. Lendrum was taken completely unawares. She was invited to come into the parlor to hear some musical selections and on entering found herself surrounded by all her children and grandchildren. After a pleasant evening refreshments were served and the guest of honor was presented with a handsome sum of money and good wishes for many happy returns of the day.

CLARKSVILLE.

We certainly heard good news when our pastor, Rev. Donald Boice, stood up and told his people Sunday that he would not accept the call he had received and intended to remain with us. We hope the people will appreciate his staying with us and come out and fill all the empty seats on the Sabbath. It will make the minister feel cheerful, and every one will hear something worth coming to hear.

GUILDERLAND CENTER.

— David T. Hurst’s nurse has gone, and we are rejoiced to be able to inform his many friends that he is recovering nicely. May this continue!

— Miss Mary Campbell has a fine line of artistic folders and post cards from Mrs. L. F. Pease which are suitable for birthdays, holidays and other occasions. Call and examine them. You will be pleased.

— A special meeting of the Red Cross auxiliary was held at the home of Mrs. George Moak Wednesday afternoon. The members present listened to an interesting address by Miss Owen of Albany, who explained the after-war work which the Red Cross organization is doing. There will be another meeting on Nov. 3, at 2:30. A large attendance is desired, as it will be decided at that time whether the society will continue as an organization or disband.
