ALBANY COUNTY — After a lengthy hiatus, due to the pandemic, the Albany Area Chess Club is returning to its regular activities.

The club meets at 6 British American Blvd. in Latham, near the airport, every Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

On Oct. 6,  the club elected Dean Howard as president; Cory Northrup as vice president; Tim Wright as treasurer; and Charles Eson, a resident of Altamont, as secretary.

A championship chess tournament will begin on Oct. 27 at 7:30 p.m. Registration is from 7:15 to 7:30 p.m.

The rated tournament will have a round-robin Swiss-style structure with game in 90 minutes, 5 second delay. Players must be members of the club (the membership fee is $35) and have membership in the official chess organization, the United States Chess Federation.

Nonmembers who would like to play other nonmembers, and those who would like to learn more about chess, are welcome to attend while the tournament games are being played. Please bring any chess equipment you have with you.
