I am voting for a better Berne

To the Editor:

In our Town of Berne, we have the option of services in the upcoming election. We can continue with the Democratic team that wants to give away our Berne Highway Department and yet keep our inadequately staffed town-clerk hours.

Our other option is to vote for the United Berne Republican Team that wants to keep our hardworking Berne Highway Department and enhance the town-clerk hours.

People are increasingly becoming aware of what the elimination of our highway department will mean if Mr. [Kevin] Crosier and the rest of the Democratic team have their way.  Do you really think Berne roads will get priority service in a hard-hit storm (or for other maintenance) with their 1 percent of the vote in Albany County?

The hardest working crew in Berne is our Berne Highway Department, and I will do all I can to stop the Democratic team from eliminating the crew’s quality full-time work. The other major aspect of our town government is the town clerk’s office which is open 25 to 30 hours a week. Saturdays, in the summer, when the clerk is most needed for transfer permits, the clerk’s doors are closed.

Berne supervisor candidate Sean Lyons and town-clerk candidate Bill Keal, part of the United Berne Team, want the hours of the town clerk’s office to coincide with the transfer-station hours, which includes nights and weekends.

As for me, I am voting for a better Berne. I am voting for the United Berne Team. They will work for the betterment of our community and for the residents of Berne.

Editor’s note: A public vote by Berne residents would ultimately decide if the Berne Hight Department were to be consolidated with the Albany County Department of Public Works.
