Claim of disenfranchisement rings hollow

To the Editor:

Thank you for adding clarity to the issue raised in last week’s Enterprise concerning ballot challenges in the primary for the Independence Party line in the 31st Albany County Legislative District.

As you pointed out, legitimate questions were raised regarding the authenticity of the signature on the absentee ballot of Nick Viscio's niece.

The right to vote is fundamental to our democracy.  Any uncertainty about the sanctity of the ballot should be challenged and needs to be investigated vigorously.

It is the responsibility of the candidate whose ballot or ballots are challenged to prove the validity of the challenged ballots.  In the case of Nick Viscio's niece, this did not happen. Thus a claim of disenfranchisement rings hollow.
