School board seeks community member for audit committee

To the Editor:

The Guilderland Central School District Board of Education is seeking interested community representatives to serve on the Board of Education Audit Committee.

The Audit Committee consists of three members of the board of education, appointed annually, and two representatives from the community. Currently, we have a need for one community representative.

The audit committee typically meets monthly, in the early morning, during the school year. The duties of the audit committee are advisory in nature and include:

— Recommending appointment of the external auditor;

— Meeting with the external auditor prior to commencement of the annual audit;

— Reviewing and discussing with the external auditor any risk assessment of the school district’s operations developed by the auditor;

— Reviewing the draft audit report and management letter, and assisting the full board in interpreting them;

— Recommending the acceptance of the annual audit report; and

— Reviewing the corrective action plan and assisting in the implementation of such a plan.

Additionally, the audit committee will appoint and oversee the internal auditor.

To be eligible for consideration as an audit committee community representative you must meet the following requirements of the commissioner of education:

— Reside within the Guilderland Central School District;

— Have demonstrated accounting and/or auditing experience;

— May not be employed by the district;

— May not currently or within the past two years have provided goods or services to the school district;

— May not be the owner of or have a direct and material interest in a company providing  goods and services to the school district; and
