Two vehicles crash on Delmar bypass

Two vehicles crashed head-on on the Delmar bypass near Kenwood Avenue at 1:05 p.m. on Tuesday.

According to a release from the Bethlehem Police, a vehicle was driving east in the westbound lane of the divided highway when it struck a vehicle driving west.

There were no passengers in either vehicle. One of the drivers had to be extricated. Both drivers were transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital, by Delmar-Bethlehem Emergency Medical Services and Albany County Paramedics, with serious physical injuries.

The Delmar bypass was closed in both directions for over an hour as police investigated the crash. At this point, speed and alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors to the crash, the release said.

The Slingerlands Fire Department and Elsmere Fire Departments also assisted on the scene.

Anyone with information on the crash or who witnessed the crash is asked to contact Bethlehem Police at 518-439-9973.
