Smiths and Jones’s Outnumbered,

So Are the Men, in This Village

The registration books for the Nov. 2 election closed on Saturday and a glance at them for Districts number 4 and 6, which include Altamont, reveal a few interesting facts about the number of voters bearing the same family name.

The Smiths and Jones’s are not in it in Altamont. The family name of Crounse appears 28 times,

that of Becker 18, Ogsbury 14, Smith 12, Hilton 11, Blessing 10, and a long list of others appearing 7, 8, and 9 times.

Of course the ladies outnumber the men in Altamont in voting strength, but you didn’t know just how much. Here it is — 59.

In District 4, 126 males are registered, and 161 females.

In District 6, the numbers are 188 men, and 236 women.

THOMPSON’S LAKE.

— While the Winne girls were returning from Schenectady one night last week, the engine of their car refused to work. Fred Dorsett was towing them home and in some way the towing chain wound around one of the wheels, smashing the wheel to bits and throwing them into a ditch. The accident happened in front of Peter Pitcher’s. No one was injured.

— On Monday evening, Nov. 1, a Hallowe’en social will be held in the church hall. Sandwiches and coffee, pumpkin pie, and baked beans will be served. All are welcome.

VOORHEESVILLE.

— Mrs. W. W. Gilbert and Mrs. W. W. Crannell attended the parade in Albany Saturday evening, of the Women’s Republican club, and helped to swell the list of marchers who numbered nearly one thousand.

— The residence of Peter Flansburgh caught fire last Friday morning at one o’clock, but was extinguished by neighbors carrying water. The blaze was supposed to have originated from rats gnawing matches in a coat hung in the attic.

VILLAGE NOTES.

— Mr. Verch of the Altamont Motor Sales Co. is a busy man to-day. A carload of Ford Touring Cars and two one-ton trucks has arrived and is being unloaded to-day. He reports business is fine. If you need a car get in line while they last.

— The dance given by the senior class of the High school at Masonic hall Thursday evening was a very pleasant social affair. The attendance was not as large as it might have been had the dance been given on some other night than Thursday, but those who attended enjoyed every minute of the evening. The music furnished by Zita’s five-piece orchestra, of Albany, was alone worth the price of admission, and it is regrettable that more were not present to hear them.

QUAKER STREET.

Sunday saw on the state road running through our village a regular parade of autos, and we noticed that on their return toward evening many were loaded down with apples and vegetables.

McKOWNVILLE.

The annual Hallowe’en masquerade will be given at the M. E. church on Oct. 29, at about 3 o’clock. Prizes will be given for the best dressed boy and girl, the best group, and the best dressed child.
