Save money, energy, and the planet

To the Editor:

Area residents have a great opportunity to learn more about saving money, energy, and the planet, at the Capital Region’s largest indoor/outdoor Renewable Energy and Sustainable Living Fair on Saturday, Oct. 28, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Doane Stuart School at 199 Washington Ave. in Rensselaer.

Judith Enck, former Obama Regional Environmental Protection Agency administrator, will be the keynote speaker at noon, along with other speakers and presenters throughout the day. Admission and parking are free. Refreshments will be available.

The fair features a 12 electric vehicle “look and ride” show; a solar boat; a tour of Doane Stuart’s green roof; exhibitors and displays for solar, wind, geothermal, and heat pump energy; net-zero building and insulation; and other energy-efficiency products. The fair also features exhibits on composting, community gardens, carbon sequestering, beekeeping, and pesticides, plus Earth-friendly and sustainably sourced products, crafts, and kid-friendly activities.

The fair sponsors are The Sierra Club Mohawk-Hudson Group, PAUSE/Capital District 350.org, Stop NY Fracked Gas Pipeline, Albany Bicycle Coalition, Citizen’s Climate Lobby, Transition Troy, and Columbia County Management Committee.
