Reality can be downright dangerous

To the Editor:
Congratulations to Noah Zweifel for his astute and even-handed reporting on the woeful fiscal irresponsibility demonstrated by local officials in the town of Berne [“Berne frequently leaves electric bills outstanding, unbeknownst to taxpayers,” The Altamont Enterprise, Oct. 5, 2022], and for the Enterprise’s editorial in support of Zweifel’s work [“We’re waiting to see the light,” Oct. 6, 2022].

Are those citizens who support the Republicans running Berne going to raise the predictable cry of “fake news” in the face of this overwhelming evidence of malfeasance?

Reality is reality, folks, and in this case, it is decidedly, and demonstrably, not pretty — in fact, it’s downright dangerous.

Let’s not forget how Berne politicians persecuted that lone Democrat voice of reason, Joel Willsey, whose efforts to right a clearly crooked ship brought him nothing but grief.

Here’s hoping the residents of Berne wake up and smell the coffee, then vote accordingly.

Editor’s note: The only town election in Berne this November is Albert Thiem, running unopposed for town councilman on both the Republican and Conservative lines.
