VILLAGE NOTES.

The Hudson River Day Line steamers will remain in operation until Sunday, Oct. 19. The last boat down the Hudson will make the trip on Sunday. If you think of going to New York that would be an ideal way of making the trip.

DAYLIGHT SAVINGS ENDS OCTOBER 26

On the last Sunday of this month, Oct. 26, at 1 a. m., the clocks of the nation will be turned back one hour, marking the end of daylight savings. Congress repealed the daylight savings law, so there will be no turning forward of the clocks next spring, as far as the Federal government is concerned. However, in numerous cities there is talk of continuing the law locally.

Whether daylight saving will work out, locally applied, remains to be seen. Cities have the power to fix their own clocks. They cannot govern the movement of any trains, U.S. courts or departments related to the U.S. government. Where two different times are used there is bound to be confusion. Some cities have tried it. There is a difference of opinion as to whether or not it has been satisfactory.

Many city people are in favor of daylight saving in the summer, particularly those who can leave the office or factories while the sun is high and get in eighteen holes of golf or take an automobile ride, or go swimming, or work in a home garden before dark. Stores are for it, of course, as they save money on light bills.

On the other hand, the farmers say the daylight saving law brought hardships and limited production. People who follow Ben Franklin’s advice on “early to bed, early to rise,” do not get their sleep in the best hours under daylight saving. They go to bed in the heat and light of the day and miss out on the cool of the morning.

THOMPSON’S LAKE.

On account of the illness of the teacher there have been no sessions in district 13 this week.

REIDSVILLE.

It is almost impossible for farmers to gather their crops this fall without waste of grain, potatoes, beans, etc. in the very few pleasant, sunshiny days. Boys, get busy; hard winter in the near future.

GUILDERLAND.

A Hallowe’en social will be given by the For Us and Others class in the dining room of the M. E. church on Oct. 30th. All plan to come and have a pleasant time.
