Come for coffee, and help me form Friends of Switzkill Farm

To the Editor:

As an active member of our community, I would like to invite you to a morning coffee, chat, and tour of Switzkill Farm, the land purchased in 2015 by the town of Berne. The event will be held on Saturday, Oct. 14, from 9 to 11 a.m. in the great room of the lodge, located at 165 Game Farm Road in Berne.

Ted Kunker, chairman of the Switzkill Farm Board, will welcome you with a short overview of the property, explain how it has been used so far, and talk about future plans. You will then take a tour of the lodge and the retreat house to see for yourself what a beautiful resource is available to you for meetings, celebrations, and weddings.

You may also choose to walk on one of the many trails that crisscross the property. There are several ponds, a waterfall, a shale pit, and a spectacular panoramic view of the northern Catskills from the highest point on the land.

I am eager to begin a Friends of Switzkill Farm support group to help sustain this beautiful park and it facilities, all of which are open to the public, every day, from dawn to dusk. I would love to have you work with me in that group.

You might like to help with programming planning or execution, or perhaps you’d like to help develop educational brochures with information about the farm, or just participate in any of the myriad projects support groups undertake. I could use you! With many hands, much can be accomplished.

I look forward to meeting you on Oct.14 at 9 a.m. to learn more about this valuable asset to our town. The coffee will be hot, and the baked goods tasty.
