Mary Anne Ross
Mary Anne Ross, a long-time Guilderland math teacher and her family’s matriarch, died peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2025. She was 77.
She was the beloved wife of the late Victor G. Ross and cherished partner of Mark Bremser.
“Abundantly blessed, her life was filled with joys and sorrows,” her family wrote in a tribute. “She loved her family and her many friends. She had a special place in her heart for all her math students she taught in her 31-year teaching career in the Guilderland School District.
“She was our families’ true matriarch, holding our extended family together through multiple generations. Mary Anne was an excellent cook and the queen of all our Italian family gatherings. Entertaining brought her so much joy.
“She loved hosting family and friends during the holidays and special occasions. First at her home in Altamont, and later in her Queensbury retrofitted garage converted into an entertainment center affectionately called “La Cucina.” These parties were a memorable experience for all those who were able to attend.
“Mary Anne loved Ogunquit, Maine and spent many weeks there in every season. Whenever it was a crisp and spectacularly blue-sky day, you could hear her say, ‘It’s a Maine Day.’ She shared her love of Maine with her husband, Vic, and after his passing with Mark and her extended family and friends who would often join her.
“Mary Anne returned to her roots in Whitehall when she moved to Queensbury and volunteered many years as a tour guide at the Skene Manor where she enjoyed meeting people and keeping history alive. She also served as the organizer of their annual successful basket party fundraiser.
“Mary Anne loved to do the NYTimes Spelling Bee where she reigned as Queen Bee for 731 days in a row! Gardening, swimming, reading, playing games, especially cards and Mahjong, and traveling were some of her other passions.
“She cherished all her great nieces and nephews from the time they were born. She was fondly referred to as Aunt Mimi.
“Her legacy is the heartwarming impact she made in all the lives she touched through her warmth, kindness, generosity, fun nature, and love. She will be dearly missed.”
