SLINGERLANDS — Robin Glen Coughtry of Slingerlands, a master cabinet maker who spent his entire life working on the family farm, died on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2022. He was 67.

He was born on June 6, 1955 and raised on the family homestead as were eight generations of Coughtrys before him.

“Robin majored in mechanical engineering at the State University of New York at Canton,” his friend David Fritts wrote in a tribute, “and spent his life serving his community.

“From a young age, Robin and his family were involved with Boy Scout Troop 73 of Voorheesville. Once he became an adult, he continued to participate in scouting in various leadership roles, including assistant scoutmaster. Robin participated in hundreds of camping trips and scouting events over his tenure in the troop. The troop has held weekly meetings and camping on the Coughtry homestead since the early 1960s.

“Taught by his father, Robin became a master cabinet maker and home builder. His attention to detail and level of craftsmanship were unrivaled. There are very few buildings in his community that Robin and his father did not work in.

“In Robin’s adult years, he added caregiver to his list of jobs on the farm. When his parents fell ill, Robin assumed the responsibility of full-time caregiver. After putting his career on hold, he was able to provide exceptional care and dignity to his parents in their final years, and kept them out of assisted living.

“Robin always kept to himself, but was the guy you called when you needed help. He would drop anything he was doing, and always found a way to resolve the issue.

“Money and possessions meant very little to Robin. Instead, relationships with the ones he held dear were how he showed his wealth. Knowing Robin and having him in my life is one of the greatest blessings I could have ever received.”
