My answer to Mr. Porter follows.

I appreciate your passion, and I am interested, but I think your demand is inappropriate and unnecessary.

I, too, have friends and family who are veterans. My father-in-law, who lives with us, and my father who lives nearby, are both World War II veterans in their 90s that we care for daily. My uncle, also a World War II veteran, was recently buried with a military service.

I would try to attend if the event were not on a Wednesday, particularly the 16th. I have multiple commitments that day (one is every Wednesday). Such a long event would be very difficult to schedule, particularly at such short notice.

Are there other options?
