Awards and achievements
These local students have recently distinguished themselves:
— Brooke Corbett of Slingerlands, received a $1,180 Alan Donovan Scholarship at the State University of New York College at Oneonta. Corbett, a graduate of Bethlehem Central High School, plans to major in psychology;
— Ethan Mcdonald of Schenectady, received a $2,000 Oneonta Auxiliary Services Merit Scholarship. Mcdonald, a graduate of Guilderland Central High School, plans to major in business economics;
— Michael O’Mara of Altamont, received a $4,000 Catskill Scholarship at the State University of New York College at Oneonta. O’Mara, a graduate of Guilderland Central High School, plans to major in mathematics;
— Matthew Bushart, Bethlehem Central High School, the son of Julie Bushart and Randal Bushart of Selkirk, was one of 27 high school students from six states to attend the National Summer Transportation Institute at Michigan Technological University;
— Ashley Gifford, of Berne, is serving as a member of the Connors State College Livestock Judging Team in Warner, Oklahoma. Gifford, a freshman, is pursuing an associates of science degree in animal science. She is the daughter of Bonnie Gifford and Roger Gifford of Berne;
— Erin Abriel of Slingerlands, a student at the State University of New York College at New Paltz studied abroad last summer;
— Samuel Levitt of Delmar, a student at the State University of New York College at New Paltz studied abroad last summer;
— Emily Bowman of Delmar participated in the Summer Science Research Program at the University at Albany;
— Megan Martucci of Slingerlands participated in the Summer Science Research Program at the University at Albany;
— Samantha Scherer of Voorheesville was welcomed into Western New England University's chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society during the university’s convocation ceremony. Scherer is majoring in sports management;
— Brenna Obrien of Altamont, is among the new inductees of the State University of New York College at New Paltz Honors Program for fall 2016. Obrien is one of approximately 230 honors students drawn from a student body totaling more than 7,000;
— Marcus Knodler of Altamont, a member of the class of 2018 at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts majoring in aerospace engineering recently completed an intense, hands-on research project in Bar Harbor, Maine. The project was titled Bar Harbor Project Center Trail View: Acadia National Park;
— Courtland Ingraham is performing in a Siena College production of “Godpell,” from Sept. 29 to Oct. 2. Ingraham is a history/political science major from Guilderland;
