Harold B. Grippin
EAST BERNE — Harold B. Grippin, a Korean War veteran and a long-time resident of East Berne, died at home on Thursday, Sept. 21, 2023. He was 93.
Born in Binghamton, New York on Feb. 18, 1930, he was the son of the late Ralph and Harriet (née Bogart) Grippin.
He graduated from Voorheesville’s Clayton A. Bouton High School and, his family wrote in a tribute, “went on to serve his country as a United States Marine during the Korean War.
“He was the beloved husband of Dorothy (née Schell) Grippin, whom he married May 27, 1955, sharing 68 years of marriage.
“Harold drove bus for Bethlehem Central School District and retired to spend time with his family …. Harold enjoyed camping and fishing at the St. Lawrence River, hunting, and tending to his farm. He enjoyed conversing with his co-workers, neighbors, friends, and his Tuesday breakfasts with the Old Men of the Mountain.
“Harold and Dorothy enjoyed spending family time with their children, Timothy Grippin, Michele Murphy, and the late Thomas Grippin; their grandchildren, Wesley Grippin and Jordan and Jessica Murphy; and their great grandsons, Owen and Ryan Grippin and Miles Murphy.
“He was the brother of Gordon and MaryEllen Grippin and the late Marion Countryman, Carol Wengenack and Gerald Grippin.”

His family will host calling hours at Fredendall Funeral Home at 199 Main St. in Altamont from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 29.
