Stephen J. Rzany

VOORHEESVILLE — Stephen J. Rzany, an Army veteran who worked for the state’s health department, had a passion for motorcycling.

He died suddenly on Monday, Sept. 16, 2024, at St. Peter’s Hospital.

He was born in Albany and lived in Voorheesville his entire life. He was the son of Charles and Sadie (née Skalski) Rzany.

He served in the United States Army and was stationed at Shape Air Force Base in Belgium as a fireman and honorably discharged. After leaving the service, he worked for the New York State Department of Health - Wadsworth Center - Griffin Laboratory in Guilderland until retirement.

“Steve’s passions were hunting, fishing, cooking, and, most of all, motorcycling,” his family wrote in a tribute. “He started riding motorcycles at a very young age. His love for cycling included dirt biking, ice racing (side-car), collecting motorcycles (buying, selling, trading) and amassing an enormous amount of motorcycle-related items (trinkets, books, magazines, posters and parts).”

Stephen J. Rzany is survived by his nephews, Scott Dickson (Sing), Kevin Deleskiewicz (Joan), William Deleskiewicz (Barbara), and William Schryver; and by his nieces, Christy Schryver and Cheryl Schryver.

His parents, Charles “Charlie” and Sadie (née Skalski) Rzany, died before him, as did his sisters, Carol Dickson, Katherine (Kit) Schryver, and Dorothy Deleskiewicz.   

A service will be held on Oct. 5, from noon to 2 p.m. at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Route 155, south of Central Avenue).

A Celebration of Life will be held at 68 North Main Street in Voorheesville following the services.  “Please stop by and share your stories and favorite memories of Steve,” his family wrote.
