Northeastern Cave Conservancy celebrates 38 years of owning Knox Cave

KNOX — Since the Northeastern Cave Conservancy Inc. became the stewards of Knox Cave in 1978, thousands of people have been able to safely enjoy and study the cave.

In celebration of the cave’s successful management, the conservancy is mounting a special exhibit of advertising and memorabilia, photographs, and other objects from the history of the cave.  This exhibit will be held in conjunction with the conservancy’s annual barn dance on Oct. 1 from 6:30 to 10 p.m. at the Octagon Barn at 588 Middle Road in Knox.

The exhibit is free and open to the public during the hours of the barn dance. Several of the stewards of Knox Cave will be available to discuss the historic material.

All are invited to enjoy the barn dance as well.  Paul Rosenberg & Tamarack, a live fiddle band playing traditional early American, Celtic, and French-Canadian music, will teach easy-to-learn step-by-step contra, square, and folks dances.

The cost is $10 per person with a $5 discount for students. A family is admitted for $20, and children under 12 are admitted for free. Refreshments will be served and there are raffle and door prizes.

The Northeastern Cave Conservancy is a not-for-profit organization, which has owned and managed several cave preserves in New York State since 1978.  For directions, call Bob Addis at (518) 237-1165 or Emily Davis at (518) 295-7978 or go online to http://www.necaveconservancy.org/.
