BETHLEHEM — A 17-year-old from Albany and a 16-year-old from Waterford were charged with felonies after a Bethlehem Police officer noted a stolen car in August.

Police did not release their names because of their ages.

A release from the Bethlehem department described events unfolding this way:

On Aug. 25 at about 1:17 a.m., a Bethlehem officer in the area of Route 9W and Corning Hill Road saw from his patrol car’s license-plate reader that a car stolen from Saratoga County had just passed him, traveling north on Route 9W. When he tried to stop the car, the driver sped away into Albany.

A short time later, the car was found in Albany and a search turned up a 17-year-old from Albany, who was charged with third-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a felony.

Further investigation led to the driver — a 16-year-old from Waterford — who was charged on Sept. 19 with the same felony, third-degree criminal possession of stolen property.

Both of the cases will be heard in the Youth Part of Albany County Family Court.
