Troop 50 had a record six Eagle Scouts in 2021 — from left, Alexander Evans, Asa Guntert, Sean Butler, Robert Fitzpatrick, James Plummer, and Brian Muller. The Guilderland troop, in its 65th year, is holding an open house on Sept. 24 and recruiting for a troop of girls.
GUILDERLAND — Scout leaders from St. Madeleine Sophie Cub Pack 50 and Boy Scout Troop 50 will present an overview of their programs on Tuesday, Sept. 24, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the St. Madeleine Sophie Parish Center, located at 3500 Carman Road.
“Come visit us for an overview on today’s Scouting program,” says a notice from troop leaders.
Boy Scouts of America are divided by age and activity: The Cub Scouting program is open to boys and girls enrolled in kindergarten through fifth grade. The pack is seeking adults to form and lead new dens.
The Scout program is open to young men in grades 6 through 12. At this time, Troop 50 is actively recruiting young women grades 6 through 10 along with adult leaders to form a new Guilderland BSA Girl Scout Troop.
“Our Scout unit is in its 65th year of providing BSA programs to the youth of Guilderland,” says the notice. “Scouting provides experienced, knowledgeable leadership and strives to bring lifetime skills and values to our youth. We are involved in community service, outdoor adventure, educational opportunities, and leadership development.”
