After first success, monthly food drives planned

To the Editor:

We are enormously grateful to everyone who donated food, personal hygiene products, and pet food to our drive to supply local food pantries.

We were able to deliver substantial donations to food pantries at St. Lucy’s and St. John’s churches in Altamont and at the Hilltown Community Resource Center in Westerlo, as well as the Caring Closet, which supplies personal hygiene products to students at Guilderland High School.

We appreciate the support of the local businesses that hosted our donation boxes: Altamont Agway, Altamont Stewart’s, Altamont Post Office, Altamont Free Library, Re-Nu Spa, Main Street Cafe, the Spinning Room, Remedies Wine & Spirits, Phillips Hardware at routes 146 and 158, and Dollar General and True Value, both on Route 443.

We extend special heartfelt thanks to Hannaford at Carman Road for a particularly generous donation.

Since the need for donations is expected to remain high, we plan to conduct monthly food drives.  Anyone who would like to receive periodic texts listing items local pantries need can email a phone number to

We hope that, with community help, we can continue to supply food and personal care products to our neighbors in need.
