BETHLEHEM — Two local sustainability groups have announced a public talk on “Beyond Plastics” on Sept. 26 at the Bethlehem Middle School auditorium. Bethlehem Tomorrow and Bethlehem Central School District Green Team are co-sponsoring a presentation by Judith Enck, director of Beyond Plastics, on the topic of “Plastic Pollution and What You Can Do About It.”

Launched in January 2019, Beyond Plastics, according to a release from the organization, “is a nationwide project based at Bennington College in Vermont that pairs the wisdom and experience of environmental policy experts with the energy and creativity of college students to build a vibrant and effective anti-plastics movement. Learn what communities like Bethlehem can do to eliminate this menace to the environment and our health.”

Enck, the founder of Beyond Plastics, is also a senior fellow and visiting faculty member at Bennington College, where she teaches classes on plastic pollution and can be heard regularly on WAMC. She previously served as the regional administrator of the United States Environmental Protection Agency.

The talk will take place at Bethlehem Central Middle School auditorium at 332 Kenwood Ave. in Delmar. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the talk starts at 7 p.m. Entrance is free, but a donation is requested at the door to support Beyond Plastic’s mission. Reservations for priority entrance can be made at https://actionnetwork.org/events/plastic-pollution-and-what-you-can-do-about-it.

Bethlehem Tomorrow is a group of concerned citizens in Bethlehem with a mission to encourage the town to protect and preserve farmland, forests, parks, and other open spaces for the public benefit for now and for future generations, and to promote activities that encourage an environmentally sustainable community.
