Wiles promises fun elucidated ‘Baseball’s Greatest Hit’

To the Editor:

Tim Wiles has promised a lively, fun program when he describes the history of “Baseball’s Greatest Hit: Take Me Out to the Ball Game” at the Thursday, Sept. 21, meeting of the Guilderland Historical Society. Using pictures and music, Mr. Wiles will tell us the story of the 109-year-old song familiar to almost all Americans, baseball fan or not.

Tim Wiles, director of the Guilderland Public Library since 2014, was formerly the director of research at the National Baseball Hall of Fame Library in Cooperstown. He co-authored a book about the song in 2008 at the time of the song’s centennial.

Everyone is invited to join historical society members at 7:30 p.m. at the Mynderse-Frederick House, 451 Route 146, Guilderland Center for the program and social hour following. For information or directions call (518) 861-8582.

Mary Ellen Johnson, vice president
