Northeastern Cave Conservancy  to celebrate 39 years of owning Knox Cave

KNOX — The Northeastern Cave Conservancy Inc. became the stewards of Knox Cave in 1978 and in that time, thousands of people have been able to enjoy, appreciate, and study this wonderful natural feature and safe and conservation minded stewardship.

In celebration of Knox Cave’s long history of successful management, the conservancy is mounting a special exhibit of advertising and memorabilia, photographs and other objects from the history of the cave.

This exhibit will be held in conjunction with the Conservancy’s annual barn dance to be held on Sept. 30 from 7 to 10 p.m., at the Octagon Barn at 588 Middle Road in Knox.

The exhibit is free and open to the public during the hours of the barn dance. Several of the stewards of Knox Cave will be available to discuss the historic material.

All are invited to enjoy the barn dance as well.  Paul Rosenberg & Tamarack are a live fiddle band playing traditional early American, Celtic and French-Canadian music and will teach easy-to-learn step-by-step contra, square, and folks dances.

The cost is $10 per person, half price for students, and $20 for a family; children under 12 are admitted for free.  Refreshments will be served and there are raffle and door prizes.

The conservancy is a not-for-profit organization, and it has owned and managed several cave preserves in the New York state since 1978.
