Bringing a new spirit to Guilderland’s historical marker program

To the Editor:

You are cordially invited to the Guilderland Historical Society meeting to be held in the Helderberg  Room of the Guilderland Public Library on Sept. 18, beginning  at 1 p.m.

There will be a brief business meeting and then there will be a historical marker celebration of the 12 new historical markers Guilderland has obtained in the last three years.

Beginning in 2022, the program was aimed to fill in the blanks in our town where there were no markers. Four have been installed east of the Route 20 and Route 155 intersection. Four have been installed in the Settles Hill Area.

The Guilderland Historical Society together with the McKownville Improvement Association as well as the Eastern States Society Sons of the American Revolution have worked diligently to bring a new spirit to the historical marker program.

Major thanks goes to the William G. Pomeroy Foundation based in Syracuse, which has funded nearly all of the new markers. At least $20,000 in grants from the Pomeroy Foundation have provided funding for these markers.

Please come and join us to learn about these markers and help develop plans for future markers. Your thinking on what new markers should be forthcoming will be appreciated.

John B. Haluska

Vice President

Guilderland Historical Society
