Memories of summer concerts linger

To the Editor:

With bluegrass, rockabilly, sixties’ rock, acoustic music, and jazz, Orsini Park was certainly alive with wonderful music this summer.  On behalf of the Altamont Free Library, I would like to take this opportunity to extend our thanks to all who made our Summer Concert Series a success: performers, sponsors, concert-goers, and volunteers.

I especially want to thank and congratulate Lori McCutcheon, concert coordinator, for all of the work she did to make the concerts possible. It took much planning and outreach to provide such a great line-up.

The weather cooperated this year and we were able to welcome close to 1,000 people from throughout our area and beyond to our summer concerts.  Along with the music, the highlight of these concerts was the festive atmosphere with all ages from the very young cradled in loving arms, to the young at heart, enjoying the music and connecting with each other.

Funding for all six of the concerts would not have been possible without the yearly grant that we receive from the village of Altamont, a generous contribution from Remedies/Bella Fleur, and the great support of concert-goers when we pass the hat.  We appreciate the work of Jeff Moller and the Village of Altamont Buildings and Grounds workers who provide such a neatly mown and maintained concert venue for us.

We are already thinking about next year and extend an invitation for anyone who has suggestions of artists to contact the library.  If you would like to be part of our planning committee, you may contact the library as well.

September may be here, but the memories of great music, getting together with old friends, and making new friends is something we can look forward to next year.
