Albany Medical College to host urogynecology conference
Albany Medical College’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology will host a urogynecology conference for caregivers on Sept. 16, 2016 at the Hilton Garden Inn at Albany Medical Center.
The goal of the conference is to provide physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants in primary care, gynecology, and urology who care for female patients, an overview of pelvic-floor disorders, including diagnostic strategies and treatment options.
Pelvic-floor disorders affect 20 percent of women, but are underdiagnosed and undertreated due to lack of appropriate screening, lack of understanding of treatment options, and women’s reluctance to discuss the issue.
Erin Crosby, M.D., assistant professor and assistant program director for research in the Division of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery at Albany Medical Center is the course director for the program. Patrick Culligan, M.D., of the Weill Cornell Medical College, a renowned robotic and vaginal surgeon, will be one of the faculty for the conference.
Topics to be addressed include the psychosexual impact on women living with pelvic-floor health issues, physical therapy for pelvic-floor muscle dysfunction, biological grafting as well as mesh-based surgery, dyspareunia, hemorrhoids, and fecal incontinence, to name a few.
Physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants who seek additional information or who wish to register may contact Tessa Bertrand at (518) 264-8601.
